Butter Cream Frosting

While I meant to get a post up on Sunday to follow-up my Saturday ride post, (and continue the theme that was on my mind all weekend: food), I got side-tracked and am just getting back to it now. And since I have finally! figured out the bluetooth feature on my phone, I can at least spice up the blog with low-quality cell phone pics.

Despite the soreness from the muscle crushing uphill ride on Saturday, I couldn't let a perfectly good sunny weekend day slip by without a ride... especially since I'll be working 6-day weeks for the remaining 6 weeks of my clinical rotation. Thus, it was time to properly introduce the 575 to the trail.South Table Mesa seemed like the appropriate choice, as I assumed the copious sun exposure on the mesa would surely dry it out faster than the surrounding mtn bike trail choices. Boy was I wrong! The pic does not do justice to just how creamy the mud and slop was - the perfect consistency of butter cream frosting!Amidst the goopy grind around the mesa, I ran into fellow CoMo rider, Todd, and enjoyed a friendly chat and brief shot downhill before parting ways. The 575 plowed through the rocky patches with ease, and was still nimble enough to surge back uphill, even while laden with a couple extra pounds of mud! Thanks to my husband for the best Christmas present ever... I can't wait to get back out on the trail!!!

Ground Beef

Got my first "bigger" ride in this year... (anything over 2 hrs is a bigger ride to me). Lots o' climbing, turned my legs into the consistency of ground beef, and put my lungs in a vice. Wish I had a computer to track the elevation gain, but considering the route was a mere 39 miles and took 3:15 to complete, it was A LOT of uphill! Kudos to my Yeti ARC-X - heavy 'cross wheels and all made for a fun ride on pavement and dirt (mud)!
Only 20 miles to go... taking a breather at Golden Gate Canyon State Park.
