Back in the Saddle

The first week back in school is done. Whew! Only 15 more weeks to go... It's too early to start the countdown yet, especially considering that this is my most difficult semester in the program. A course load of 18 credits does not do any justice to the sheer amount of time spent at school, not to mention studying.

Let's break it down... There are 168 hours in a week. I need at least 8 hours of sleep a night, so I'm down to 112 hrs. I spend 36 hrs per week in class, and including transportation time, I'm down to around 70 hrs left. I study another 4 hours per day on average, now I'm at 42 hrs. Now if I factor in dinner, showering, and keeping my husband happy,
I'm left with 15 hrs. So, depending on the weather and how many showers I take (or skip), there's my training time for the week, including driving anywhere! It's a tight itinerary each day, but I'm determined to keep my sanity!!!

Moving Up

My husband Chris and I are both eagerly looking forward to the 2008 racing season. Last season turned out to be a cakewalk for both of us. Chris raced his first season in the Beginner category, and with his excellent bike-handling skills, killed the field! I vastly improved my skills and fitness over the previous season, and cruised to an easy overall victory in the MSC series as well. This year, we both know it won't be so easy. Chris has moved up to Sport Men 30-34, which is always a competitive field. Along with moving up to Expert Women 19-29, I'm also fully engrossed in the rigors of the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Regis University. Hence my training is taking the backseat to school.

No worries though... Mountain bike racing will be a stress release from school!
